It’s rather shocking to find that a significant number of Americans hate their jobs!
If you run a business, this isn’t news that you can take lightly. If you don’t find a way to motivate employees then you can expect them to leave your company for greener pastures.
So what are you supposed to do? How do you go about motivating employees and keeping them at your company?
Here’s how to motivate employees to improve your company culture:
1. Let Them Record Their Attendance
One of the things that many employees hate is to have their employer look over their shoulder to ensure that they’re working.
You should install a biometric clocking system by NCheck in your workplace. This allows your employees to clock in and clock out on their own. The system will then give you reports of when they’re entering your workplace and when they’re leaving or taking a break.
2. Recognize Achievements
The next step is to recognize the achievements of your employees. Many employees feel that they aren’t appreciated at their workplace and this is what leads them to resign.
This doesn’t mean that you know need to praise your employees for every achievement, but you do need to remind them that their contribution is needed.
For example, let’s say your team finishes a major project during a particularly busy week. Make sure you thank them for their hard work and encourage them to relax over the weekend.
In fact, it wouldn’t hurt if you took them out for a happy hour or game night once in a while to relax. This is a great way to make them feel appreciated.
You should also give out certificates and trophies to your employees each quarter. Consider having “Employee of the Month” recognition and also giving out bonus payments during the winter season.
3. Offer Recreation
Whether we like it or not, we spend much of our lives at the workplace. This means that millions of Americans spend more time stuck at the office than spending time with their friends and family.
A healthy balance between work and play is what motivates employees in the workplace. You should have spaces within your office that allow for recreation.
For example, you can have a game room where your employees can play board games, ping pong, or even video games on their break. You can have a small library where they can read while on their lunch break.
Make sure you also offer them paid vacations if possible. If you take interest in their enjoyment then they’ll see you as an employer who cares about their lives.
You Can Motivate Employees
Now you know how to motivate employees to keep them loyal to your business.
The first step should be to help them record their attendance. This makes them feel in charge of their schedule and that you aren’t watching over them.
You should also recognize their achievements often. Give them awards and pay bonuses when needed. Make sure you also offer them recreation and entertainment at the workplace.
