Keywords are essential for business SEO.
It’s crucial that you choose the right ones. If you do, you’ll improve the reach, ranking, and conversion rate of your posts. If you don’t, people won’t click on your content, no matter how great it is.
If you’re not sure how to do that, don’t worry. In this post, we’ll tell you everything you know about creating a successful keyword list.
How to Create a Keyword List in 4 Steps
Use these tips to make keyword research easy.
1. Brainstorm Your Topics
Before you can start to come up with keywords, you need to define what your content will be.
Start by brainstorming a list of topics that are relevant to your site or social media channels. These could be topics that you blog or post about regularly or things you think your target customer is interested in.
Ideally, you should have at least 10 topic ideas, to begin with.
2. Find Keywords for Each Topic
Each topic from your list can be used to generate an individual keyword list.
Brainstorm words that are related to each topic, considering what each blog post should rank for. You don’t have to narrow things down or get too specific at this stage. Just include anything you think could be relevant.
3. Include, Head, Body and Long Tail Keywords
There are three types of keywords you should be using.
The first is head keywords. These usually consist of a single word and have a huge search volume and massive amounts of competition.
The second is body keywords. These are short phrases, usually consisting of just two or three words. They are more specific than head keywords, but still, generate a large volume of searches.
Then, there are long tail keywords. These are phrases with four or more words and can be close to full sentences. Individually, they may not have a lot of search volume. However, they are very specific, which enables them to lead people to the niche content they’re looking for.
4. Use the Right Tools
You don’t have to do all your keyword research by yourself. There are plenty of online tools and services out there to make the process easier.
For example, you can use Google’s free keyword research tool to find out the monthly search volumes of your selected keywords. Some of the other most popular SEO tools for businesses include Ahrefs keyword explorer, Wordtracker, Rank Checker and Buzz Sumo.
